BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Immigration advocates say dozens of people were detained by ICE in Birmingham and Gadsden with little to no explanation. It is leading to fear in the community.

There are still a lot of questions about what happened Wednesday at an immigration supervision program office in Birmingham. Local immigration advocates took a picture of someone being escorted from that office just off Highland Avenue.

Allison Hamilton, Executive Director of the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, tells WBRC the people, who were in the country illegally, were in our area under a supervision program that allows people to remain in their communities as they move through immigration proceedings without placing them in custody. Some have to wear ankle monitors.
