Calico Rock, Ark. (KATV) — The manhunt for Grant Hardin, a convicted killer and rapist who escaped from an Arkansas prison 11 days ago, has intensified as authorities fear he may be hiding in the region's numerous caves.

Hardin, infamously known as the "Devil in the Ozarks," has drawn widespread attention due to his past as a rogue police officer turned criminal.

Once a small-town Chief of Police, Hardin was described by those who knew him as a man driven by power and anger.

A local resident said, "He is just an evil man. He should not be trusted. In one word I would say, he is a sociopath."

Born in Bentonville and raised in Pea Ridge, Hardin held various law enforcement positions in Fayetteville, Huntsville, and Eureka Springs.
