Attempted kidnapping suspect dead after being shot by Peoria police

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — Police said they were forced to shoot and kill a man who tried to kidnap a woman and her baby in a Peoria neighborhood on Thursday evening.

It happened near 87th and Pershing avenues , south of the Loop 101 (Agua Fria) freeway and Thunderbird Road, around 6:45 p.m.

According to Peoria Police Sgt. Araceli “Shelly” Montes, the man tried to kidnap a woman who had a baby in a stroller. He then tried to take the baby from the woman.

During the attack, investigators said the woman FaceTimed her husband. The woman’s husband came home and he and a neighbor chased the suspect down the street. They cornered the man in the cul-de-sac. That’s when officers arrived and approached the suspect. Some sort of altercation occurred and one officer opened fire, hitting the suspec
