EL CENTRO — The methadone clinic at Fifth Street and State Avenue in El Centro has come under fire for the homeless population that often loiters around the clinic.
A petition is being circulated among the community about the issue and has accused the city of not doing enough to alleviate the problem.
At Tuesday’s El Centro City Council meeting, Clinical Manager Daniel Plascencia attended to explain what has been happening near the methadone clinic.
Plascencia said one of the problems is the hours of operation, as the clinic closes at 3 p.m. daily, so many of the problems with the homeless occur after hours.
“The people there are not our patients,” Plascencia said.
The use of meth was the problem in 2015 and now the clinic is seeing people addicted to fentanyl, he said.
