W.Va. cell phone fees to increase
CHARLESTON — Cell phone users will see a 10.2 percent increase in their bill fees as of July 1, the West Virginia Public Service Commission said Thursday.
The wireless enhanced 911 fee is going from $3.64 to $4.01. There also will be an 8-cent wireless tower fee and a 29-cent public safety wireless fee assessed.
The money is collected by the PSC, but is then remitted to the counties based on a formula for their use. The fee, established by the Legislature, is subject to recalculation every two years.
The fees are used to improve the effectiveness and reliability of 911 services, according to officials.
