Wheeling Central’s Brayden Cover threw a one-hit shutout in the Maroon Knights’ 10-0 victory over Wyoming East in the WVSSAC Class AA baseball state tournament semifinals Thursday night at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston.

Cover went six innings in the run-rule-shortened contest, ringing up 14 strikeouts and five walks in a 106-pitch effort.

Braxton Billick, Gary Hatfield III and Zayne Rosnick each had two hits for Wheeling Central (26-4), which advanced to Saturday’s state final against Philip Barbour, which defeated Logan 6-5 in the other Class AA semifinal late Thursday (visit wvgazettemail.com for coverage of that game).
