WASHINGTON — The Sabbath after the Tree of Life massacre in 2018, I joined hundreds of other worshippers at my synagogue to stand in solidarity with the Pittsburgh Jewish community reeling from this unfathomable act of antisemitism.
Last month, my community was the one attacked when two Israeli embassy employees — Sarah Milgrim and her soon-to-be fiance, Yaron Lishinsky —- were gunned down on a public street in downtown Washington, D.C. Once again, I attended Sabbath services to hear my rabbi try to speak about the unspeakable.
“There have been too many times over the past few years when people attending synagogue knew exactly what the sermon topic would be,” Rabbi Michael Safra began. “And this is one of those mornings.”
