Tim Clausen, NV Energy’s vice president of regulatory affairs, faced a room full of angry customers Wednesday night at a consumer session of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

The utility had overcharged 60,000 customers $17 million over seven years by wrongly classifying multifamily residences as single-family homes, according to a PUCN staff investigation earlier this year.

Another 20,000 customers were also overcharged for an undisclosed amount. Only $2 million has been refunded in those instance.

Before the mix of community activists, residents with soaring electric bills and frustrated rooftop solar owners, Clausen spoke about the company’s commitment to greater transparency going forward.
