BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Almost 1 in 10 Vermonters are at risk of losing federal funding that keeps food on the table.
That’s according to Senator Peter Welch.
The so-called ‘big beautiful bill’ focuses on tax cuts and boosts funding for national and border security.
Welch says the bill guts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - or SNAP. He adds Vermonters who face hunger need more than $58 million a year to keep them fed, and that’s in jeopardy if the bill passes.
Welch also says it could have implications for years to come.
