ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Starting next year, a series of driverless shuttles will connect parts of southwest Atlanta to the nearby Beltline.

On Thursday, the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority greenlit the 12-month pilot project. Under the current outline, four autonomous shuttles will carry riders on a 2-mile loop connecting the MARTA West End Station, the Atlanta University Center and the Lee + White entertainment hub, which is next to the Beltline.

Officials with the Beltline and Beep, an autonomous mobility service provider, pitched the project to the transit authority in May.
