MUNSTER — Savannah Nuetzel couldn't walk nine months ago — let alone run.
The Munster senior broke her ankle during a soccer practice in the fall and needed surgery. She can't remember exactly how it happened, but she couldn't walk until November.
"It was hard to build back the muscle I lost because I wasn't able to walk on it for such a long time," Nuetzel said. "My calf was super atrophied. When I was starting to walk, it was super uneven and weird. My right leg was a lot stronger than my left."
She credits a combination of weight training and physical therapy for regaining the strength in her leg. By the end of December, Nuetzel could run the 400-meter dash at the AAU Indoor Northern Nationals. She placed fifth.
"I wasn't very happy about my time or where I placed, but it
