WARREN, Ohio - An appeals court has denied a request by Trumbull County officials and Warren Township to halt the removal of the Leavittsburg Dam.

The 11th District Court of Appeals issued a judgment entry stating that the county and township "failed to establish, by clear and convincing evidence, that they are entitled to a preliminary injunction."

The ruling means the Trumbull County Metroparks can proceed with its plans to remove the dam as part of the Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization project, which aims to restore the river to a free-flowing state.

The county commissioners and Warren Township had appealed a May 21 judgment from the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas, which concluded they lacked standing to pursue their complaint against the Metroparks.
