MIDDLETOWN – Remodeling of the former federal court building in Middletown to convert it to a city courthouse is underway and Mayor Joseph DeStefano said it should be completed by the end of the year.

The mayor said the remodeling to bring the building to state standards is on schedule.

“Two nice courtrooms and the while operation will be moved over to South Street, which will then allow us to expand the existing police station operation with moving the detective division out of the basement and up to a place where there are windows,” he said.

At present, there is one courtroom with a second court space occupying the city council chambers.
