Dear Prudence,
My sister-in-law, “Marie” has a habit of making insulting comments about overweight people when she is out with her 5-year-old daughter.
She will point out someone who is large and tell her, “That’s what happens when you eat too much.” I’ve witnessed this on plenty of occasions when I’ve been out with them, and I find it shameful. In addition to being flat-out mean and setting a bad example for my niece, I am afraid that sooner or later Marie is going to be overheard by someone who will take exception to her rudeness and will get her ass kicked.
