Baltimore officials have confirmed that a significant diesel fuel spill into the city’s Inner Harbor has been contained, though cleanup operations are still ongoing.
The spill, which ultimately amounted to approximately 2,000 gallons, originated from Johns Hopkins Hospital’s East Baltimore facility.
What was initially reported as a 200-gallon contained spill on Wednesday morning quickly escalated into a broader environmental incident. Hours after the first report, Baltimore’s fire department responded to a 911 call regarding a diesel sheen at a marina in Harbor East, located over a mile from the hospital.
