Actor George Wendt , best known for his role as Norm Peterson on Cheers , died from cardiac arrest with congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and hypertension as underlying causes, according to his death certificate, which was obtained by TMZ on Thursday (June 5).
Wendt's family said he died peacefully at the age of 76 in his sleep at his home on May 20, though his official cause of death has not previously revealed publicly.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” a rep for Wendt said in a statement obtained by the Hollywood Reporter . “He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
Wendt, a Chicago native got his first big break with the famed Second
