ALFRED, Maine — Alfred fire officials believe a lightning strike likely started a fire at a house in Alfred early Friday morning.
Alfred Fire & Rescue was called to a home on Mountain Road in Alfred at around 4:30 a.m. Friday, according to a post on social media.
On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the basement of the house. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to other parts of the house.
The fire caused smoke damage to the first and second floor of the home, but fire officials said the home is otherwise intact.
"Working smoke detectors alerted the occupants of the fire," the post said.
