PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Three of the scariest plays in baseball happened in Thursday night’s 5-4 extra-innings win between the Whitecaps and the Lake County Captains. Not one, but two batters were struck in the head by pitches at LMCU Ballpark and a pitcher took a comebacker to the neck.
The first happened in the bottom of the fifth inning when West Michigan’s Patrick Lee took a pitch off of the helmet, struck near the ear. He stayed down on the ground for a minute while trainers and coaches tended to him. He eventually walked down to first base but was lifted for a pinch runner.
The next inning, Lake County’s Jacob Cozart took a glancing blow off of his helmet and quickly took his base, insisting he was not hurt.
