(WSAZ) - We’ve spent all week tracking the slow approach of a front to our western border that has had a history of touching off gully-washing thunderstorms, and now it’s here. There will be plenty of rain-free hours of the day today, but today will still be a First Alert Weather Day for slow-moving downpours that can form in this tropical mugginess. Highs today will stay in the mid-80s, but that’s because the hotter it gets the more clouds and showers will develop in response. The amount of water in the air is such that any thunderstorm that forms can easily channel more than an inch of rain to the ground in short order. We cover a wide area and there are a lot of outdoor events, so it’s best to be on our toes this afternoon through tonight.
