KIEL, Wis. (WFRV) - A stovetop that was accidentally left on overnight led to a fire and the evacuation of a multi-unit home in Kiel early Friday morning.

Crews with the Kiel Fire Department say they were called to the 900 block of 6th Street in Kiel around 2:20 a.m. on June 6 for reports of a stove fire.

Before crews arrived, they were warned by dispatch that the fire was starting to spread to kitchen cabinets, prompting other departments to respond to the scene.

When firefighters got to the multi-unit home, smoke was seen coming from the building, and the residents in the downstairs unit had evacuated. Officers with the Kiel Police Department then helped to evacuate the residents from the upstairs unit.

The fire was ultimately deemed under control within three minutes as crews worked
