Houston police officers shot and injured a 15-year-old boy brandishing a rifle in a southwest Houston apartment complex early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a call just after 2 a.m. Friday about a discharged firearm at an apartment complex in the 8300 block of Cinnamon Lane.

Two officers from the police department’s westside patrol division arrived to the scene and started to walk around the complex, immediately hearing gunshots. The officers observed several people running around the complex and shooting at each other.

At one point, the officers encounter a 15-year-old boy wielding a rifle. Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra said the officers felt threatened and discharged their weapons at the teen, striking him twice.
