BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville spoke with the media for the first time after announcing his candidacy to be the state's next governor.

The senator would touch on a variety of topics during his sit-down, including many related to accomplishing President Donald Trump's agenda:

"We don't want Americans to have to see an average of 22 percent tax increase over the next few years, and that would happen. That would be the biggest tax hike in American history," Sen. Tuberville said. "We also have to cut spending, and this is a necessity. We are spending nearly $2 trillion more than we bring in every year. If we keep doing that, we will go under."

Sen. Tuberville also spoke about the administration's immigration policy:
