CONEY ISLAND – THE CITY COUNCIL’S Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises is set to hold a meeting next week discussing the “The Coney” casino proposal for Coney Island. The contentious plan was approved by the city Planning Commission last month , despite opposition from Community Board 13 and many local residents, who say the proposed three-block casino-entertainment complex would overwhelm the neighborhood, although some say the economic benefits would be worth it.

Residents can register to offer opinions in person or via Zoom or phone call online on the City Council’s website . The meeting will take place on June 12, starting at 11 a.m., at 250 Broadway.
