MARINE PARK – TWO BIKE RIDERS were seriously injured last weekend by a kite string while crossing the Marine Parkway Bridge, reports Gothamist . Cyclist Jennifer Noble said that she did not see the thin string hanging across the path before riding into it, and that it cut her fingers and forehead before passing over her and striking fellow rider Robby in the throat. Both were taken to Coney Island Hospital, where Robby is now recovering in the ICU.
The string could have been the result of a kite-fighting battle. In that sport, the strings of kites are coated in glass or other sharp materials, and flyers attempt to slash each other’s strings.
