A fantastic postseason run for Red Land softball ended on Thursday, as the Patriots were topped in the final at-bat in the PIAA 5A quarterfinals.

Red Land, which had won its first district title, clinched its first state playoff appearance and won its first state playoff game this year, fell to Penn-Trafford 6-5, with Annabell Carvajal launching a walk-off double at the Iron Horse Sports Complex in Windber.

After falling behind 1-0 early, Red Land actually took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth, with Addie Wagenheim driving in two runs and Logan Shettel scoring her with an RBI double.

Penn-Trafford answered with two runs in the bottom frame to tie the game at 3-3, and then would take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Cam Ponko.
