ASHEBORO, N.C. — A chase involving a U-Haul van in Asheboro on Monday ended when the van crashed into a car carrying a mother and her infant child.

According to the Asheboro Police Department, officers responded to the Walgreens on E. Dixie Drive shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday in reference to a larceny. Witnesses told officers that a female, identified as Jenna Andrews, had stolen items from the Wallgreens before leaving the scene in a U-Haul van.

Officers spotted the van a short time later and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the van fled "a short distance" before crashing into a vehicle on N. Cox Street near Ward Street. The driver, identified as Matthew Rivenbark, tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers.
