Nineteen East Texas athletes were honored with Super Elite Track and Field status recently by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
Cara Sims of Elysian Fields (2A girls) and Colter Maya of Lindale (4A boys) earned MVP status.
Sims qualified for the UIL State Track and Field Meet in three events - the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters - and brought home gold medals in the 1,600 and 3,200 while placing fifth in the 800 meters.
Maya won the 400 meters at state for the third time in a row and also was on the winning 4x400 relay team to help the Eagles win the Class 4A boys track and field title.
