ZEELAND, MI — Mead Johnson plans to invest more than $836 million in expanding and modernizing its Zeeland factory, but the plan is facing scrutiny from locals.

Reckitt, the parent company of infant formula manufacturer Mead Johnson, has acquired several properties to support the expansion of its infant formula and nutritional products plant at 725 E. Main Ave.

The properties are located within the block of Carlton and Fairview avenues and Main Street and Washington Avenue.

In anticipation of this multiyear project, Reckitt has issued a rezoning application for two properties at 605 and 633 E. Main Ave. from residential to industrial use.
