WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump’s tariffs would cut the federal deficit by $2.8 trillion over a 10-year period, according to an analysis released by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office .

This deficit cut is almost the same as the amount added to the deficit by the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, which would add $2.4 trillion to the deficit . Democrats asked CBO to conduct analysis on how Trump's tariffs would shift the economy.

Marc Goldwein, policy director of the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, described the tariff offsets of the cost of the Republican’s budget bill as “pretty coincidental," reported by The Hill.

The analysis assumes that the tariffs will be in place permanently.
