INDIANAPOLIS — An Anderson Police Department officer is facing charges after shooting a gun off-duty while trying to recover his stolen car on the east side of Indianapolis .
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Maurice Magee with two counts of criminal recklessness.
IMPD responded to a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Woodruff Place West Drive , near East Michigan and North Rural streets, just before 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 19.
The prosecutor's office said people who live in the area heard cars revving, followed by a crash and gunshots near their homes.
According to the prosecutor's office, Magee was looking in the area after his car was allegedly stolen. Prosecutors say he tracked his car with an Apple AirTag.
