MUSKEGON, MI - An 85-year-old bridge in a Muskegon neighborhood is being removed and replaced.

The Amity Bridge is located just before Amity Avenue meets Cedar Street and turns into Myrtle Avenue, connecting the Jackson Hill neighborhood to the outskirts of downtown Muskegon.

Amity Avenue is entirely closed from Fork Street to Spring Street, with additional road, sewer and lead line replacement work being done at the same time.

The project started last month and is estimated to be completed by the end of July.

The city of Muskegon previously received a grant of around $560,000 through the Michigan Department of Transportation Local Bridge Program to replace the bridge with a road, Dan VanderHeide, city public works director said.
