NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Fire Department reports a person disappeared in the Cumberland River during an attempted rescue on Friday morning.

NFD confirmed that crews were dispatched to 185 Anthes Drive for reports of a person jumping into the river and being in distress.

Crews observed the person attempting to swim across the river, toward the East Bank, but began floating down the river.

The person was last spotted going underneath a barge. There have been no reported sightings since.

“NFD boats have been launched and crews are attempting to locate the person at this time,” NFD shared.
