CHARLESTON — The kegs have run dry at a longtime taproom in the city’s Historic Brewery District.
Fans of Cooper River Brewing Company’s beer won’t need to pour one out for the company entirely — the brewery will continue to produce beer at its facility in Charleston's upper peninsula, selling to retail, food and beverage customers.
Just the taproom, which has been on the scene for more than 10 years, is closing.
In announcing the closing on social media, the brewery stated that the “world has changed."
“Post-pandemic, the demand for beer-only taprooms has shifted, insurance has become more complicated, and downtown rent is nowhere near what it was a decade ago,” the company posted , adding that it was hard to compete in the local food and restaurant scene without having its own kitc
