CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 43-year-old man was fatally struck by a car Thursday night.

According to a release from Canton Police, officers responded to 32nd Street NW and Cleveland Avenue NW around 11:50 p.m. for a crash between a car and a pedestrian.

A 2023 Buick Encore was driving southbound on Cleveland Avenue when it hit a man who was in the roadway.

First responders took the man to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries early Friday morning.

Chief John Gabbard said the Canton Metro Crash Team is investigating the crash.

According to the release, the driver was not injured, and drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Gabbard said it is unknown at this time if drugs and alcohol were a factor for the pedestrian.
