PORTLAND, Maine — The REEL Recover Film Festival, which raises money to help people recovering from addiction, kicks off in Portland on Friday.
The festival is organized by the Maine Association of Recovery Residences (MARR) , a nonprofit that runs recovery housing across the state.
The festival runs 4-9 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Hannaford Hall at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. Events continue Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The festival highlights different stories showing the reality of addiction and recovery. There will be many movie screenings, with some filmed locally in Maine.
Additionally, there will be speakers, including the directors and film makers, and people in recovery.
