BRITT — A supper club turned residence north of Virginia was destroyed by fire early Friday morning.

A passerby called 911 at 4:37 a.m. after spotting flames coming through the roof of the former El-Roy Supper Club, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

The passerby honked their vehicle horn and awoke the man and woman inside the residence, who escaped without injury.

Several fire departments responded to the home in the 7200 block of Britt Bypass.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
