NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) - Construction is underway for an expansion at UPMC's Jameson Hospital campus in New Castle.
Administrators say they plan to open a new 11-bed in-patient area for behavioral health patients early next year.
They plan to repurpose an existing section of the hospital.
Jameson President Dave Patton says the addition will help fill a need for mental healthcare in the region.
"This was a gap that we identified within our service area that, clearly, we worked with our local partners to keep patients as local as we can, and we're blessed to have this opportunity to care for those folks and keep them close to home," he said.
UPMC will partner with the Southwest Behavioral Health Management Group to operate the new area.
