It might be a while before Penelope Buckner feels comfortable venturing outside again when thunder is booming.
The accompanying footage, captured in Huntington Beach, Ca., shows Penelope standing outside her home, asking mom a question, when a lightning bolt seemed to explode upon a palm tree behind her.
She and her brother, who appears after the strike, set speed records while reaching the safety of their home, with the brother finishing just ahead of Penelope, who is heard screaming inside the house.
Penelope told NBC News: “It was amazing, but it scared me a little bit.”
The footage was captured by Penelope’s mother, Tiffanie Buckner, who said she hadn’t realized how close the storm was to their neighborhood.
The accompanying video clip is courtesy of Orange County Outdoors, which stated:
“Like many kids did, they went out to the enjoy the rain during the warm weather thanks to this monsoonal moisture we experienced on Tuesday, but then came some crazy lightning bolts! Scary for sure!”
