Five people were killed as they attempted to collect aid on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip, hospital officials said Friday.
The officials at Nassar Hospital said the five victims, whose bodies were brought there, were shot dead as they tried to collect aid on the western edge of the city of Rafah.
In northern Gaza on Friday, Israel issued a new warning to civilians saying the military was about to undertake intensive operations in an area after it said rockets were fired toward Israel from the sector.
The death of the five people came after shootings erupted nearly daily over the past two weeks in the Gaza Strip in the vicinity of new hubs where desperate Palestinians are being directed to collect food.
Witnesses say nearby Israeli troops have opened fire.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a newly formed group of mainly American contractors, said Friday that all distribution centers are closed for the day urging people to stay away from the areas for their own safety.
It added that an announcement will be made later about the times during which the centers will be active.
Officials at GHF did not immediately respond to questions by The Associated Press regarding the latest reports of shooting that killed five on Friday.
