Paradise Valley Mayor Mark Stanton is supporting a proposed measure that would change how vice mayors are selected.

Under the current town code, the council has the discretion to elect any fellow member they choose to the post.

With the proposed change, which was discussed during the town council’s study session before the May 22 meeting, the longest serving council member who has not previously served as the vice mayor, has served at least one year as a council member and agrees to serve, “shall be designated as vice mayor for a one-year term,” according to the proposed ordinance.
