AVON, Ind. — A martial arts studio in Avon has launched a scholarship to help kids who are recovering from domestic violence or facing financial hardship.

Cameron Smith, owner and head instructor of Confidence Club Martial Arts , said he deeply believes in the power of community, resilience and second chances.

His small business recently launched the Purple Belt Scholarship, which was created to offer a safe space and full martial arts training scholarships to students who are recovering from domestic violence or facing financial hardship.

The scholarship is named after one of martial arts' most symbolic belt colors, purple, which represents courage, transformation and healing.
