NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is marking its 25th anniversary, and one man has been there since day one.
Ronnie Abboud, 86, has volunteered at the museum for all 25 years. When people still refer to it as the “D-Day Museum,” he doesn’t correct them.
“A lot of people will say to me, Ronnie, are you still at the D-Day Museum? And I say yeah, that’s right,” said Abboud.
The museum opened on June 6, 2000, with a focus on the D-Day invasion. But by 2004, Congress designated it the official National WWII Museum. Since then, it has expanded to a seven-pavilion campus spanning seven acres and welcomed more than 10 million visitors.
Abboud’s connection to the war dates back to his childhood.
“I’m a little boy in WWII, and I didn’t know what it was, but I knew som
