After almost five years of planning and construction, Franklin’s new Bicentennial Park is set to open on June 18.

The city had originally budgeted $4 million for the project but the cost jumped to $9.4 million after officials decided to add permanent parking, officials said.

A final price of $10 million was approved in February 2020 with Barge Design Solutions crafting the blueprints, but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans were significantly delayed.

They were picked back up by city leaders in 2023 and approved.

The newly-designed 10 acre park is located on the former Georgia Boot Factory Pavilion property. The company shuttered in 2001, and Franklin acquired the land soon after with the intention of building the park.
