OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department has begun work on removing 72 hazardous or declining trees, the department announced Friday.
The trees are located along “City rights-of-way,” and replacement planting will begin in the fall.
A $140,000 grant from the Inflation Reduction Act, administered by the Nebraska Forest Service, is covering the costs.
“This grant gives us the opportunity to responsibly manage our City’s tree canopy while also investing in its long-term health,” said City Forester John Wynn.
Several weather events in the past year damaged trees across the metro, including a blizzard in March and the devastating tornado outbreak on April 26, 2024.
