CORTLAND, Ohio - A citizen's video, shared on local social media, helped Cortland police track down a driver for reckless operation earlier this week.

On Monday, a video depicting a reckless driver along South High Street was submitted to the Cortland Police Department. Detective John Weston used the video in conjunction with the department's Flock safety camera system to locate the vehicle and identify the driver.

The driver was issued a citation for reckless operation and has since pleaded guilty to the charge. He’ll be sentenced later.

The Cortland City Council authorized the purchase of eight Flock Safety license plate recognition cameras in January 2024.
