(FOX40.COM) — Three students were left injured at Ellen Feickert Elementary School after a part of the ventilation system fell, according to the Elk Grove Unified School District.

Officials said a register plate from the ventilation system in the cafeteria detached and fell during lunchtime on Thursday.

The plate directly hit a student and affected two additional students nearby.

All three children were taken to the hospital for evaluation and medical care.

"We are in close contact with the families of the students involved and will continue to offer our full support as they receive medical care," officials said.
