SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Friday marked National Donut Day and Western Mass News got to celebrate thanks to the Salvation Amy, who swung by a local favorite, Donut Dip, Friday morning.

One of America’s favorite sweet treats actually gets its own day twice a year. The first one was Friday.

The Salvation Army uses National Donut Day as a moment to highlight the “Donut Lassies,” who volunteered with the organization during World War I and would often make freshly fried donuts and provided essential supplies for the soldiers.

This year, the Salvation Army will be delivering donuts across the Commonwealth to spread joy and a sweet treat.
