TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department will hold its annual memorial service on Tuesday to honor firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
The ceremony will take place at noon at Chub DeWolfe Park, located across from Fire Headquarters at 545 N. Huron St.
TFRD says this year’s guest speaker is Ian Bennett, the National Line of Duty Death Outreach Coordinator for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Bennett, who has been affiliated with the foundation since 2001, retired as fire chief for the City of Harrisonburg, Virginia, after 33 years of service.
The annual tradition began following the loss of four firefighters during a gasoline tanker truck fire on the Anthony Wayne Trail on June 10, 1961.
The service will also honor Toledo fire retirees who died in 202
