PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A heat wave will take over the Pacific Northwest this weekend and into the work week.

Temperatures will top out in the 90s on Sunday and Monday.

“Sunday is likely to be the hottest day of the year so far,” Storm Tracker 2 Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby said. “96 is what I’m forecasting for the high. It would set a new daily high record.”

Some forecast models say a few locations in the Willamette Valley could hit 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service has placed the Columbia River Gorge and Upper Hood River area in a major risk category for Sunday. The rest of the region is in a moderate risk category.
