Do you have ancestors who settled in Northeast Oklahoma or Southeast Kansas? What route did they take to get there? What type of transportation did they use?
If they had previously lived at Wyandotte City, Kansas, they probably traveled south along the Old Military Road that started at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The road ran south along the east side of the state. Originally, the military road was used to transport soldiers and supplies. A few forts were built along the route. ×
